Zastava M70 PAP

So I’ve been waiting for these for a while now. The Zastava Military Arms factory in Serbia has been producing single-stack Yugo M70′s for years, they’ve been imported by Century and now we’re getting them from Atlantic. They’re milling out the magwell to accept standard AK doublestack mags and putting decently finished wood furniture on them.

PAP M70

There are a few variations that make this an enticing choice over regular M70′s. The Zastava M70 PAP rifles have a 16″ barrel, with a Yugo pattern RPK heavy duty receiver for improved durability , they claim this will improve accuracy too but its not like the original Yugo was anything to sneeze at.  The very Yugo front sight post is still here and all the furniture is probably post-import. The PAP also comes with a tack welded receiver cover rail that I’d rather do without. I’m definitely going to be grabbing one of these for myself and seeing what I can do for you guys through http://snakehoundmachine.com/

Recently at my favorite local armory and really the only place that has many different variants of aks like saigas with grip/rifle stocks (weird) and some century arms offerings. I had seen this on the website and finally saw it in person at “the armory”. to be honest, not all that impressed considering its price point. the rail system is a nice touch but considering the poor quality of my first and last century ak, id worry about zero retention. the gun is a straight looker. stunning looking but my biggest issue was the stock set. the stock is nice and smooth and gives a rather soft cheekweld but the handguards are of the same material and are so nicely finished that they are slick. i think the bulge lower portion wouldve been a positive consideration for this issue. and make the ridges for your thumb and fingers a little more course. I know that yugos are considered tops for the 30mil round AK and by looking at it i cant argue but it felt a bit strange. im sure shooting it is a different story but to me a gun has to fit the operator.
now in the market for a new AK. since i traded my romanian for an ATI .45

i have 2 questions. have you ever seen or heard of the AT-47 by “Xtreme Machining”? milled receiver with imported parts and have read its a solid rifle that bodes tighter tolerances than the standard AK
and have you had any experience with the vz58 or any of its civilian semi-auto cousins?

im considering parts building a bulgy 74 from ak-builder but the receiver issue i dont have the tools for. would have to mcgiver an almost finish polish into a fixed stock..or buying a finished 47 (7.62) version. because of your site i NOW know what to look out for now. thanks!

I just got 1 of these AK’s, I like it, it’s built pretty solid. The only thing i’m having trouble with is finding new furniture for it. My Norinco was easy to find what I needed. So what i’m getting at does anyone have a tip on how to find the stuff I need? I appreciate it.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, and have been a little disappointed. I brought it straight to the range, and fired about 8 rounds (it fired very accurately) before the bolt jammed. I then took it apart and re-aligned the bolt, but it jammed again. I’m a noob to rifles, so this may be an error on my part. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone had any advice on how to correct this? Thanks in advance.

We’ve had one come through the Snake Hound shop recently and while they’re nearly impossible to customize, the fit and finish of the gun is fantastic.
Your problem is probably with the work done by Century when they adapted the magazine well to accept standard AK-47 magazines. Try different mags, but most likely you’ll have to send it in the Century for warranty repairs.
